Coachman Defenders is built around the lifelong passion of founder Andrew Fox — a hands-on craftsman who’s been obsessed with Land Rover Defenders since childhood. His journey began at 14, studying motorsport at Thruxton before moving into mechanical engineering and fabrication. By 20, he’d bought his first Defender in pieces and rebuilt it bolt by bolt, shaping it into a modern workhorse for both adventure and family life.
That same dedication is what led Andrew to create Coachman Defenders. For the past decade, he and his team have focused on concours-level, or show-quality, restorations that honour the Defender’s heritage while elevating it with modern reliability, comfort, and craftsmanship.
At Coachman Defender, we approach the restoration of your Defender with a careful and methodical process, treating every nut and bolt as if it were our own. From the moment we strip it down to the final touches of reassembly, we infuse our years of experience, craftsmanship, and passion into every step. Our commitment to doing things right ensures that your Defender is restored to its former glory with the utmost attention to detail. Throughout the journey, we keep you closely involved, sharing updates so you always feel connected to the build.
We offer two distinct levels of restoration — Concours and Preservation — each tailored to meet different needs while upholding our uncompromising standards. Both options can be customized to your specifications, ensuring the perfect blend of comfort and modern amenities.
• Concours restorations transform classic Defenders into timeless pieces of automotive art. They are meticulous, ground-up rebuilds designed to deliver a Defender to a condition better than when it left the factory, with every nut and bolt renewed, restored, or re-engineered.
• Preservation restorations focus on retaining as much originality as possible, sympathetically rejuvenating the vehicle while honouring its unique story, character, and soul. Our approach ensures that its heritage shines through in every detail.
Every Defender that leaves our workshop is crafted with care, pride, and the same personal passion that ignited this journey from the very beginning. We pour our dedication into each restoration, ensuring that every vehicle reflects our commitment to excellence and authenticity.
At Coachman Defenders, we are dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service in the industry. This commitment has earned us a reputation as a trusted partner and premier restorer of Land Rover Defenders. Andrew personally updates customers throughout the build process, incorporating their desired modifications and ensuring they are involved every step of the way. When it comes time for delivery, Andrew remains engaged, inviting customers to reach out directly with any concerns. If necessary, he will even travel to their location to resolve any issues. Additionally, Andrew makes it a point to visit customers once a year for a thorough inspection and tune-up of their vehicles.
To enhance the purchasing experience, Andrew offers a unique opportunity he calls the “Great British Experience.” Customers are invited to spend time at his home and workshop, nestled in the picturesque English countryside near the iconic Stonehenge. This immersive experience allows them to closely examine the craftsmanship and take a restored Defender for a drive across the very land where it was born.

Coachman Defenders isn’t just a business—it’s our family’s way of life. Every member of the Fox family plays a part in what we do, whether it’s our baby making an appearance in our content, or my teenage children learning the craft by my side. Watching them pick up the tools, the skills, and the passion behind these builds is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
My wife is the backbone of our operation, keeping the admin, communication, and day-to-day organisation running smoothly. Without her, nothing would function the way it should. And even our dogs have their role, keeping me company in the workshop and adding to the warm, homely atmosphere that makes this place what it is.
We are, through and through, a family business. Everything we build, every Defender we restore, is shaped by the people we love and the life we share together. They’re the heart of why we do this—and the reason every project means so much to us.
